Sepsis is global public health problems with high mortality and high cost of treatment .Many factors are related to mortality rate. Mortality in Emergency Department Sepsis (MEDS) score has a better prognoses of mortality than others biomarkers.
To determine the epidemiology, clinical outcome, related factors of sepsis patients in emergency department (ED) Ramathibodi hospital and predictive ability of MEDS score for 1 month mortality of sepsis ED patients
This retrospective study included all patients age older than 15 who had positive hemoculture in ED between January to December 2014
Total 775 patients were included in this study. 110 patients dead (14.2%) Top 5 factors related with mortality were cancer, bacteremia, endotracheal intubation, treatment in resuscitation room and high MEDS score. The average time to antibiotic in death group was 176.3 minutes which no statistical difference with survived group (p=0.991). The sensitivity and specificity were 45.7% and 88.1% respectively with area under the curve was 0.77.
The mortality rate in sepsis patient in this study was lower than the previous studies. Patients were delayed to start antibiotic and MEDS score had ability to predict sepsis mortality in 1 month.
